
Workers harvest salt from one of Europe’s oldest salt works in Ston, a small village on Croatia’s Adriatic coast. The method for harvesting the salt has changed little over the centuries: the wind and sun help evaporate pools of sea water, leaving salt behind. The salt is then collected by shovel and transported by small wagons to warehouses for drying.
