Noisy Herd of Elk Cross Road in Rocky Mountain National Park

A herd of elk announced they were crossing the road with loud bugles at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado on July 5. Jennifer Gressett recorded this footage, and told Storyful she was with her friend for their annual drive from Estes Park to Grand Lake for her friend’s birthday. “We were actually looking for moose because so many visitors had reported seeing 15 or more in one day,” she said. The friends only spotted one moose, but were treated to a song from a herd of elk. “This herd of elk mamas and babies bugling made up for our lack of moose sightings!” Gressett said. She told Storyful her friend got “quite the birthday serenade from this herd, which poured out of the woods for several minutes.” In the video, the herd can be heard making loud noises as a steady stream of adult elk and their calves appear from the forest and cross the road.
