
There have been advances in access to HIV treatment, but according to the World Health Organization, it is still one of the most significant public health challenges around the world, with approximately 38 million people worldwide living with HIV. If the virus is caught early and treated properly, HIV can be controlled. Without therapy, however, HIV progresses to AIDS in only a few years. World AIDS Day, which occurs every December 1, aims to unite people in the fight against HIV, show support for those living with the virus, and honour those lost to AIDS-related illnesses.
